The first race did not go completely as planned because the practice day was rained out. There was not a crash or any mechanical breakdowns, which is a positive. Dad was able to get 7th in the feature after coming in last in the heat race. As Dad put it, this was a success after not racing sprints for many, many years.
Chassis: $6000
Engine: $10,900
Tires: $600
Gas: $180
Putting the 18" wide right rear on the cushion again... Priceless

The Tear Down
The wingless sprint recently was tore down so it can be painted for the season.
This is how the car started out.
Many hours later...
And finally after the weekend had passed so quickly, the car was down to the bare chassis.
Emily ripped off the decals off the tank and will be working on sanding the car by hand this week, getting it ready for paint. I am not quite sure why she agreed to this process... it has taken her many hours already and she is not done yet.
Thanks to Lee for tig welding a bar on the chassis for Dad's safety belts.
